| The Community Resource Center of
Johnson County (CRC)
is very proud of the part it played in bringing
the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Horns (B&GC) to
Johnson County. The CRC, after meeting with
community leaders, formed a committee to
identify the risk factors that increase the
likelihood that youth engage in problem
behaviors, and the protective factors that buffer
youth from these risk factors and promote
healthy lifestyle. After studying several
programs that address decreasing the risk
factors while increasing the protective factors,
the Boys & Girls Clubs of America rose to the
top of the list. |

The CRC, as the lead
agency in this endeavor, applied for and
received the 21st Century State Incentive Grant,
which funded the beginning of the Boys & Girls
Club of the Big Horns in March, 2003. Since
then, the CRC has received federal funding for
the B&GC from the Office of Juvenile Programs,
and continued funding from the State of Wyoming
Departments of Education and Substance Abuse.
Local foundations including the Homer and
Mildred Scott Foundation, Pacifico Corporation,
the Littler Fund, Daniels Fund, JC Penney
Afterschool Foundation, and the Edna McConnell
Clark Foundation have also assisted in
sustaining the Club’s programs. This type
of community advocacy is a prime example of how
the CRC works to bring needed resources to the
county.
