The Community Resource Center (CRC)
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
that provides services to all residents of
Johnson County, Wyoming, but especially to
youth and persons with low income. In
October of 1997, we began as “Healthy
Communities * Healthy Youth of Johnson
County.” As our mission expanded we needed a
new name, and in 2002 became the Community
Resource Center of Johnson County.
The CRC is the lead agent (grant
writing services), fiscal agent and
provider of oversight and staff for several
community projects. We have met the
criteria set out
by the Office of Community Services to be
named a Community Action Agency, and thereby
an Eligible Entity to receive Community
Service Block Grant funds. The CRC acts as
the granting agency to sub-recipients such as
Habitat for Humanity, the Senior Center,
YMCA, Ministerial Association and CASA. We
are a member of the
Community Action
Partnership, which you can learn more about
by clicking on that link on our menu.
The CRC has been successful in
applying for grants which have provided
start-up funds for the Juvenile and Adult
Drug Courts, the
Boys & Girls Club of the
Big Horns, and the Johnson County
Commissioner’s TANF grant which provides the
Extended Hours Child Care Program.
We also identified a critical
need for an Information Services Program.
The components of this program include an
information and referral system, a brokerage
of volunteer opportunities, access to a job
bank, access to Workers Compensation forms,
and outreach for Sheridan College (course
information and enrollment applications).
Information and applications for Equality
Care and Kid Care Chip programs (medical
coverage for uninsured) are also available.
Through a partnership with our neighbors in Kaycee, we have been able to provide all of
the above services including procurement of
two handicapped accessible vans for the
community of Kaycee which are used to
transport seniors and handicapped citizens
to medical appointments.
The
Tobacco Prevention Program
was the first to come under the CRC
umbrella. In 1999, the CRC received its
first grant from the State of Wyoming
Tobacco Settlement funds. It has received
grants each year since then. You can learn
more about the
Tobacco Prevention Program by

that link.
The CRC sees its role in the
community as a liaison and collaborator
between agencies as well as a dynamic
vehicle moving toward positive change in
Johnson County. |
